Anti-Sikh Content Online

We are aware of several posts appearing on social media platforms that contain racist and offensive material targeting the Sikh community; some of these accounts are produced by AI and managed abroad to divide our community for political or monetary gain. We are reporting these posts directly to the relevant social media platforms and to the relevant authorities. We urge all community members to do the same using the reporting instructions circulated by community organisations.

We will not engage with this material directly, and we will not give it further reach by sharing it. The Sikh community in the UK has a long and documented record of contributing to and enriching British society. These posts do not reflect the views of the communities we live and work alongside, and we reject any attempt to use them to create division.

If you have seen content that you believe constitutes a criminal threat, please report it to your local police on 101 or at police.uk/ro/report/hate-crime/report-hate-crime. Screenshots should be kept as evidence.

We continue to monitor the situation and will update the community as necessary through authorised channels only.

INSTRUCTIONS: Reporting Anti-Sikh Content on Social Media Platforms

If you come across a post on a social media platform that targets Sikhs with racist language, offensive characterisation, or calls for action against the community, follow these steps immediately.

Step 1. Do not engage.
Do not reply, repost, or quote the post. Engagement increases its reach. Screenshot it first, then report it.

Step 2. Screenshot and record.
Before reporting, take a screenshot. Note the username, the date and time, and the exact wording. This creates a record if the post is deleted before action is taken.

Step 3. Report the post directly on the platform.
Tap or click the reporting options on the post. Select “Report post” or the equivalent option. Choose the most accurate category from the following. “Hate” covers posts targeting people based on religion or ethnicity. “Violent speech” covers posts that call for harm or action against a group. “Harassment” covers posts directed at individuals within the community. Submit the report. The platform will review it against its own policies.

Step 4. Report to the police if the content is threatening.
If a post contains a direct threat of violence against Sikhs or named individuals, report it to your local police via 101 or online at police.uk/ro/report/hate-crime/report-hate-crime. If you believe there is an immediate threat to safety, call 999. Keep your screenshot as evidence.

Step 5. Share the holding statement above.
If you are asked by anyone, including journalists or community members, to comment on what you have seen, use only the approved holding statement above. Do not add your own commentary. Do not name specific posts or accounts. Do not speculate about who is behind the campaign.

Step 6. Do not share the offensive content.
Do not repost, screenshot-share, or forward the offensive material even to condemn it. Sharing it amplifies it. Report it and move on.
